The importance of a community builder: This is how Marc Parals lives it

He’s the community builder in charge of communicating many of the things that happen in CREC. But in this post, it’s time to talk a bit about him. Marc Parals studied Journalism and always knew he wanted to listen and telling new stories. For this, we can only think about a few places better than our coworking spaces.

Considered as a responsible and attentive community builder by his colleagues, Marc defines his job this way: “For me, being a community builder means being the reference for every coworker, specially when they are new at CREC. I think it’s very important to support everyone to make them feel comfortable and show them how important the human factor is for us”.

For this reason, he thinks a community builder meets his/her goal when he/she knows every single professional in the community: “Constantly, we have to think how to connect them and make them understand why our slogan is This is coworking”.

Thus, one of the main basis of CREC is that there’s always a member of the team at our three spaces. “I think every coworker expects we help them in stuff related to the space and supplies but also to create connections which bring value to their projects”, Marc says.

Having said that, we often refer to community builders in a general way, but in fact they all have skills that make them unique: “We all share a vocation for service. There are no differences among us, but each one can bring things which have nothing to do with each other: the talent Alfredo has with the camera, the interpersonal skills and hospitality of Carmina and Carles … And I try to catch everything that happens in CREC and share it with as much people as possible”

And we have to admit how nice it’s to tell the world every success of our coworkers, but it’s not the only moment we highlight of our job: “Feel that I can contribute as a community builder to the project of our coworkers is something special”.

Recently, he highlights a moment that included to all the CREC team: “Eduardo Ruiz, who is driving the project 360 Web Systems, made an emotional congratulation to us. We had created powerful connections with Castells Advocats Consultors, with Netmentora, Olga Ramírez, Atomic 4… And he said, literally, that his business was being a reality thanks to the job of CREC. Feel that we are an important part in the success of a coworker is the best possible reward in our job”, concludes.

This kind of relationships built due to CREC Connect have been the most impressive point for Marc Parals since he started to work as a community builder at CREC in August 2018. “The graph of our website shows a lot of connections which are much more than a simple number. They are more than 650 relationships between people which have generated something in the private and labor spheres. And we have to work hard to create more and more connections.”.

And finally, live together in the same space day by day creates special relationships with our coworkers. Because it’s true that they are customers, but we feel like teammates: “We have friendship relations, we share things about our private life… Have this kind of links makes everything so enjoyable. And that’s not only when we are working in the space. When a coworker has to leave CREC, we keep in touch and nothing changes. With people like Tania Lasanta or Laura G. Ruiz we keep the relationship and I’m sure that we will be friends for a long time!”.
