What can coworking do for you? – Jennie Torres

I have to be honest: I had no clue what coworking was for a long time. It wasn’t until I got accepted to be an intern at CREC Coworking that I understood exactly what it is and why it is gaining so much popularity. This type of environment is a wonderful place for people who are looking to grow their individual projects, and also want to not deal with some of issues that are included in other sorts of working environments like an office space or working from home.

Although, my time assisting CREC is temporary I am constantly learning the positives of what a coworking space can do for people like you. So, I hope my insight will give you a better idea of whether or not you would like to take a part in this recent international phenomenon.

Define ‘coworking’

If you’re anything like me, you probably had a difficult time explaining to yourself what a coworking space even means. Doesn’t it just refer to a typical day at the office? You’re all just working together in the same area? Well, that’s not the case. According to the official CREC website, a coworking space´s objective is to establish connections with people to help develop their professional careers. It’s not just sharing the same space, but to aid those eager to create their own projects whatever those projects may be.

“Coworking has the main objective of create connections between people to help with their own projects and careers”

The difference between an office space and a coworking space is that an office space is usually designed to work on a collective assignment whereas coworking allows you to focus on your personal assignment and you will be guaranteed a few helping hands along the way. Now that we got that out of the way, let´s go through a few things that coworking can offer you if you want to make your project a success.

1. Networking

Networking is an essential part of what it means to be a part of CREC Coworking. Meeting new people to work with is the goal of the business, but let’s dive deeper into why this is so important. Coworking is a flexible working environment that involves getting help from its employees to progress with your individual business. Networking is easier for people to attain when in a coworking space because because the main objective to keep the space afloat is to support others in need of assistance.

As an intern of CREC Coworking, my assignments have to do with being a welcoming sight within the company so that more people could feel inclined to work with us. There is a great amount of care in how the workers of this company make a positive impression on those who are open to working with us.
You are invited by CREC to collaborate with people who would be best suited to assist you in whatever needs that have to be filled. Some examples of things you could request include needing someone to manage your social media, needing help writing on a blog to promote your project, or just needing a location to progress in your work. Whatever help is required, CREC will be there for you.

2. Amenities

There is more to CREC Coworking than meeting new people. We have the material to back up our commitment to those who would like to work with us. By working with CREC, you would be given the opportunity to take advantage of our building for your project.

We provide nice services to people that include several working spaces that are offered freely as long as there is an appointment set up beforehand to take a hold of the space. These spaces can be used for anything including business meetings and presentations, which can result in your project increasing in publicity. These are well constructed, vibrant areas that anyone would be comfortable with occupying.

3. Economy

One of the best things- if not the best thing- that you can gain from working with CREC is that you don’t have to deal with high prices! There is good economy here because this is a collaborative space and as such, it is not necessary to have such high prices for a space that can be used by anybody. Working with CREC would put less of a strain on your wallet and more of a benefit for your project.

4. Focus

Being in a coworking space could give you more of a drive to pursue your project. Think about it this way, by being in a building specifically designed to have people working on their individual projects could make you more likely to work harder on your own project because the surroundings encourages you to keep moving forward.

In contrast, if you chose not to join a coworking space and work at home it may be comfortable but it could also be too familiar. Working from home every day could be stifling and full of distractions that involve wanting to do chores, watch television, or look after the kids. In a coworking space, all that you need to worry about is the task at hand. Separate home life from work, and gain a better clearing for your head.

5. Health

This may be a positive that not a lot of people think about when joining a coworking space, but it’s certainly something to appreciate. On top of separating home from work, spending your time in a coworking space like CREC could help you relax your mind from other responsibilities in life. Working solely on a project can actually relieve any stress levels you may have in your daily life because it could make you more confident that your project will be a success at a faster rate.

“My time as an intern here gave me a first hand perspective on the functionality of a coworking space. It’s much more appealing to work in aside from other locations”

You´ve probably heard the saying that teamwork is better than working alone, or that working alone is easier than in a group, but in coworking you have the best of both worlds. CREC helps you get connected with people who are willing to build up your project to see you succeed. It also allows you to work at your own pace with as big or little of assistance as possible. Whether you just want to use a space in CREC to sit quietly and work or ask for help every week, CREC has the flexibility to do all of that and more for you.

My time as an intern here gave me a first hand perspective on the functionality of a coworking space and ultimately, how it’s much more appealing to work in aside from other locations. This is information that I could definitely keep with me for when I eventually have to leave CREC to find a job of my own, and I could only hope that whatever job I get is one that is as helpful and freeing as CREC.
